Only the magnesium anode is actually available for cathodic protection of water pipes because it has a high enough driving voltage. Zinc and aluminum anodes are not suitable for fresh water because of their low driving voltage and easy passivation. Although the mercury containing aluminum anode has sufficient negative electrostatic potential and low polarization, it cannot be used for drinking water because of the mercury containing aluminum anode.
Applications include the internal protection of boilers, feed tanks, filters, coolers, tubular heat exchangers and condensers. They are intended to be used in combination with overlays and are intended to be used primarily where forced current equipment is too expensive or impossible to install.
If the target is not covered and the anode consumption rate is high, be careful not to allow Mg (OH) 2 sludge to interfere with the normal operation of the system. The sludge must be removed regularly.
In the late use of stainless steel tank, magnesium anode is often used as an additional protective measure, in this case, a string of 5~10 ω resistance to connect the anode to the tank, to avoid unnecessary high current, to reduce the anode too fast consumption.
Magnesium anodes are often used in combination with enamel lining, which is especially economical and convenient for small and medium-sized boilers. The anodes only ensure the protection of small defects in the enamel lining, which are inevitable in the mass production of enamel.
When designed, according to each square meter of enamel lining surface using 0.2kg magnesium anode calculation, magnesium anode design life of at least 2 years, more than 5 years on average.
